VENTURA, CA (October 2, 2007) – Dia De Los Muertos themed artwork created by
local artists will be on exhibit at the Sea Breeze Art Gallery from November 1 through November 24, 2007.
The Celebration
which showcases the juried exhibit will be on Friday, November 2 from 5 pm to 10 pm. The Exhibit will remain up for Art Walk on
Saturday November 3 from 1pm to 9 pm. The exhibit runs through November and
closes on 24th.
Festivities include an interior
Community Altar that attendees can contribute items in remembrance of loved
ones: Light a candle, place a photo, favorite food, drink, or memento. This year local artist and musician, Xavier
Montes joins the celebration by performing beautiful Mexican folk music on his
harp. Enjoy Art, Music, Food, Face
painting, T-shirt Art and have your photo taken.
Sea Breeze Art
Gallery has put a call out to all local artists to join in
the festivities by entering artwork to be juried by Arturo Rivas, a local metal
sculptor who specializes in Dia De Los Muertos artwork. Rivas will have a display of his work at Sea
Breeze as well. Local artists submitting
pieces for the exhibit are encouraged to use recycled materials whenever
possible.
Local
artist Stacie Logue has been the creative director of Sea Breeze Art Gallery’s
Dia De Los Muertos Celebration and Juried Exhibit for the past three
years. With the help of gallery
owner/founder Sandra McCullough, Logue decided to create an art experience
around the holiday that would include the community outside of the resident
artists. It is the one of two options a
year that the gallery allows outside artists to display in their space.
About DIA
DE LOS MUERTOS: It is
believed the holiday is during the time of year when the veil between the
earthly world & the heavenly plane is thinnest and our departed loved ones
are able to visit. While the name
indicates death: Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) it is truly a celebration
of life. It is a beautiful way to honor
our friends and family who have passed.
